As entrepreneurs with a history spanning over 150 years, we feel particularly committed to the idea of sustainability. Thinking across generations is an integral part of our family business. Acting today with a thought for tomorrow.
We want to take responsibility for the planet we share and for the people we are connected with. As a family business, thinking and acting in a sustainable manner is firmly embedded in our DNA and part of our corporate culture. We think in generational terms and act with foresight. That is why we are committed to acting responsibly along our entire value chain and make our contribution to addressing ecological, economic and social challenges. We feel committed to the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and make them the basis for everything we do.
You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs – or putting it another way: where there's production, energy's consumed and emissions are caused. Our promise: we do everything we can to minimise the impact on the environment and our staff. Sourcing 100% green electricity for all our processes, we are pioneering future-orientated production. We also produce our own electricity from solar panels installed on our buildings. From our production to LED lighting, we use highly efficient processes and effective, energy-saving technologies throughout the company. In recent years, this has enabled us to improve our energy balance and, for example, avoid more than 150 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year through the use of renewable green electricity.
Our business activities are based on social principles which we are committed to in term of our staff, customers, suppliers and other business partners. A key goal for us is to use the capital at our disposal so we can offer our employees interesting and secure jobs. It is here that we are keen about training young people to give them a good start in their working lives. Providing a secure future, protecting health, further training, focusing on work and safety and fostering diversity in our company are all important aspects in respect of furthering our sustainability.
This naturally also includes respecting human rights as a core value. We are committed to the United Nations' International Bill of Human Rights and to the UN Global Compact.
We perceive ourselves as part of society. That is why we get involved in the places in which we are active. In this way, we want to give a contribution back to our society and help those who are unable to help themselves.
Here, a particular cause of ours is the Ronald McDonald House in Bad Oeynhausen, for which we have taken on a sponsorship. In very close proximity to us, this facility provides a temporary home for families with critically ill children. This enables families to stay together and support these little patients while they are being treated.
We create a working environment that promotes equal opportunities: such as with flexible work-time models that cater the private lives of our employees. Needless to say, we offer equal pay for equal work.
